Thursday, August 29, 1985 THE MARTHA'S VINEYARD TIMESStobart's View of Vineyard Haven
About 250 people jammed into renowned artist John Stobart's beautiful house
on Beach Road over the weekend, to attend his soiree and preview his new painting, Vineyard Haven. Also on view were two major paintings in progress: Maiden Lane by Moonlight and Delaware Avenue Waterfront - Philadelphia - in 1830 - By Moonlight.
Among the guests who also enjoyed the evening were Helen Cronkite, her son Walter, and her daughter-in-law Betsy; Bruce Blackwell and Brandy Wight of the Granary Gallery; Pat Neal; Sue and Jim Partington; Beth and Tom Flynn; Georgia Ireland; Evelyn Vanderhoop; Erie Gurney, the children's book illustrator, and his wife, artist Nancy Prevo, who showed here last year and who currently has a show in Tuscon, which is their winter home.
An artist in his own right, Steve Mills, was also there, still aglow from his recent showing at the Granary Gallery - a blazing success - which resulted in the sale of 22 paintings plus a number of commissions.
Music by a string quartet added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening in John Stobart's unusual home which he designed with just such events in mind.
Currently the artist is involved in the creation of a building on North Summer Street to house his gallery and other enterprises - all designed by him. John Stobart's last original -"Ohio River Waterfront - Cincinnati - sold for $120,000.
